The investment goal calculator allows you to enter the following information:

1. Monthly Deposit (in US Dollars)
2. Average Annual Return (in percent)
3. Average Annual Inflation (in percent)
4. Final Amount Desired (in US Dollars)

Input Data Description

Two of these pieces of information you must provide from your own planning resources. The Monthly Deposit (1) will be the amount that you are able to contribute to the investment each month. The Final Amount Desired (4) will be your desired end goal. This could be for a single year or for your retirement.

The other two pieces of information must be gathered from other sources. The first is Average Annual Return (2), which is the amount of profit that your investment makes on a yearly basis expressed as a percentage. This information can typically be found in a companies’ annual report to investors.

The second piece of information that must be gathered from elsewhere is the Average Annual Inflation rate (3). Inflation is the speed with which purchasing power changes. As prices for goods and services rise, purchasing power falls. Annual inflation is the average of the twelve monthly inflation rates for any year. Output Description

When all of the required information is provided, the tool will calculate how long – in years – it will take to reach your goal. It will also tell you what your money will actually be worth at that time, expressed in todays’ dollars and given the current inflation rate.
