Metric Material Needed Formula:
Material Needed = Length x Width x HeightMetric Material Needed Definition
If you have a job to do and only know the height, length and depth using the metric system, you can still figure out how much material you need to do the job right! What better knowledge would you have than being able to know this before the job even begins? You can also check out the Imperial Material Needed calculator.
Why You Should Use This Calculator
Sure, it’s easy if you have a room that is 2 meters x 2 meters and you want carpeting that is 25 cm deep, but what if the calculations aren’t that easy? Houses, rooms, apartments/flats, dens and even game rooms have unusual dimensions, and you want to be sure you have it right for carpeting that 2.5 m x 2.3m room with 34cm of carpet.
Yeah, you could carry a calculator in your pocket but if you’re starting a job, do you really want to have it hanging in your pocket where it could fall out and break? Probably not. And paper and pens can rip the paper or even worse, lead to mistakes in carrying or in miscalculations.
Miscalculation Problems: If you order too much material, what will you do with the overage? Or worse, if you are short, you don’t want to look foolish and your best calculations lead to needing to make an emergency call for a few more cubic meters of the same material. With this, all the guesswork is taken out and you have the right amount every time.
How to Use This Calculator
Once you have the dimensions down, simply go to this free calculator and type in
- The height you will need in meters
- The width you will need in meters
- The depth you will need in meters
The answer will appear for you in a flash. Do keep in mind that the number will be rounded to two decimal places, so it will always be an estimate. Usually if your items are in meters and have one decimal place, the correct answer will be three decimal places.
Remember, most carpeting is not going to be over a meter thick, so divide by 100 the number of centimeters you will need (35 cm = 0.35 meters). Don’t forget that. Also think to yourself “Does the number make sense?”. The answer will be given to you in cubic meters. If you have an answer of say, 512 cubic meters, and none of your sides is at least 8 meters, you probably have made a mistake somewhere. Similarly, if a 0.00 comes up, you may have left one column blank. Always check those tricky decimal points.
